I wanted to take a moment to share a recap of my 2024 race season—my most successful yet—and outline my plans for 2025.
A Strong Start in Monaco & France
The season kicked off at the Monaco Crit, where I secured third place, with my teammate taking the win—an ideal way to start the year.
From there, I competed in several races in France before heading to Italy for a dedicated block of racing and training. Italian racing was a new challenge for me, but I was pleased to achieve a top 10 finish in my first race there.
Belgium & Ireland: Key Learning Moments
In May, I travelled to Belgium with a couple of teammates for a series of kermesse races. This turned out to be a hugely valuable experience, as I achieved eight top-10 finishes, including two podiums.
Next, I headed to Ireland for the Irish National Road Race Championships, where I finished 11th after missing a crucial breakaway of nine riders. I had set a top-10 finish as a goal, so just missing out was frustrating, but I took a lot of positives from the experience.
Italy: Night Races & Team Success
Following Ireland, I returned to Italy for a couple of races with Project1.
The first was the UCI 1.2 night race in Brescia, an incredible experience racing under the lights at 10:30 pm. I finished just outside the top 20 in 24th place.
Next, we raced the Valdarno Elite National, where the team worked brilliantly together, placing one rider on the podium and two more in the top 10.
Belgium: A Career Highlight
Returning to Belgium proved to be one of the most successful parts of my season. The first race, a Pro Kermesse, saw my teammate take the win, with me securing third place. Incredibly, our entire team finished in the top 10, thanks to excellent teamwork.
We then competed in the UCI Gravel World Series in Holland, an extremely tough race. My teammate took the win, and I finished inside the top 30 despite challenging conditions. The wet, muddy terrain wore through my brake pads, causing them to snap 50 km from the finish—luckily, the course was flat!
The following day, I raced at Westerlo Hulje Kermesse, where I took my first European win. The team executed our plan perfectly, with three of us making the early breakaway. I managed to break clear with a teammate, and we secured a 1-2 finish—one of my season highlights.
France, Italy & A Tough End to the Year
In September, I travelled to France for GP Plouay, but unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling my best, suffering from stomach issues. I pushed through and managed to finish, only losing contact with the front group in the closing kilometres.
From there, I returned to Italy for my final block of racing with Project1, where the team had a hugely successful run, taking two wins, two second places, and a third place from just six races.
I then went back to Belgium for my final preparation leading up to the UCI Gravel World Championships in Leuven.
Unfortunately, I became unwell just days before the event (possibly COVID), which made the race incredibly tough. Despite this, I gave it everything I had and finished 45th. Racing in a World Championships in Belgium, surrounded by passionate fans lining the course, was a surreal experience.
Reflecting on 2024
Looking back, 2024 was my best season to date, with one win, seven podiums, and 17 top-five finishes. This has given me a huge motivation boost heading into winter training.
My preparation has been going well under the guidance of Andrew Roche at WattsUp Performance. Away from the bike, I’ve also been balancing training with working for my dad at Kelly Blinds.
Looking Ahead to 2025
For 2025, I’m excited to announce that I’ve signed with MG K.vis Costruzioni e Ambiente, an Italian UCI Continental team. I’ve just completed my second training camp with the team in Latina, just south of Rome, escaping the cold at home. I feel ready to make this step up after a solid winter of training.
My season begins with Popolarissima (UCI 1.2) in Italy, near Venice, on 16th March. After that, I’ll head to Belgium for a round of the UCI World Gravel Series, followed by my first stage race of the year, Olympia Tour (UCI 2.2) in Holland.
A huge thank you to Thornton Chartered Financial Planners for your support throughout 2024—I’m looking forward to an even bigger 2025 season!
