From the early days of cycling around the NSC on Tuesday nights to competing at national races, my passion for cycling has grown exponentially. Now in my final year of youth racing as a U16 rider, I have set ambitious goals to make my mark in the national series and even venture into international stage races. Balancing training, racing, and exams can be challenging, but with dedication and effective time management, I’m determined to progress.
Discovering the Love for Cycling:
At the age of seven, cycling was simply a fun activity for me, but it wasn’t until I turned 14 that I began taking it more seriously. That’s when I entered the world of national racing and discovered my true love for the sport. The thrill of competing against other talented riders ignited a fire within me, and I knew I wanted to pursue cycling with all my heart.
Setting Goals and Balancing Priorities:
As I enter my final year of youth racing, I have set significant goals for myself. Alongside my GCSE exams, I am focused on competing in the national series and, if everything aligns, participating in an international stage race in the Netherlands. Achieving a healthy balance between training, racing, and studying is crucial for me. Time management has become essential, allowing me to allocate dedicated slots for each aspect of my life.
Dedicated Winter Training:
I dedicated my winter to intensive training to prepare myself for the challenges ahead. Mixing up road cycling, track sessions, mountain biking, and gym workouts, I pushed my limits and honed my skills. To top it off, I embarked on a rigorous training block in Tenerife, which provided an ideal environment to refine my abilities before the start of the season.
Short-Term Milestones and Long-Term Aspirations:
In the coming months, my primary focus is to secure podium finishes in the national series and gain valuable experience on the track. These achievements will lay a solid foundation as I transition to junior racing next year. While my ultimate goal is to compete at the highest level in cycling and establish a career in the sport, I understand the importance of taking smaller steps to pave the way towards that dream.
Gratitude and Acknowledgments:
None of my accomplishments would be possible without the support of an incredible team. I am immensely grateful to everyone involved in organising trips, providing guidance, and making opportunities available. These experiences and the camaraderie I share with my friends during races make the journey even more memorable and fulfilling.
My journey in youth cycling has been filled with excitement, challenges, and personal growth. As I approach my final year as a U16 rider, I’m ready to embrace the demanding race calendar while managing my studies. With dedication, perseverance, and a love for the sport, I strive to achieve my short-term goals and pave the way for an exciting future in junior racing. Along the way, I cherish every moment spent on two wheels, cherishing the friendships and memories created through this incredible sport.
